FamilyLab is an international organisation with offices in Europe, The Americas and Australasia. We offer support, counselling and competence development within families.
For decades the debate about how to best raise children has been stuck between the authoritarian style of parenting and the “laissez faire”. There has been far too much focus on the mere behaviour of children. FamilyLab is representing a “third way” - the new paradigm of parenting and education. We work with the quality of the relationships between adults, parents, couples, children, teachers, students...
We embrace relationships based on these four key values:
The choice for parents is either to subscribe to simplified models or methods – most of which are aimed at controlling children’s behaviour – or try to become parents from within and become the parents they would like to be. FamilyLab does not believe in simplified methods but in principles and values such as equal dignity, authenticity, personal integrity, and self-responsibility.
We do not believe in parent education! We think it is impossible to qualify as a father or a mother by reading books or watching tv-shows. Parent education can only take place through everyday interaction between children and grown up partners, and represents a lifelong process. FamilyLab can offer parents inspiration and counselling throughout this process.
Based on forty years of experience in family therapy and family counselling as well as closely following modern brain science FamilyLab is offering parents space, inspiration and guidance in their search for a firm ground to stand on. FamilyLab is a meeting point for partners, parents and professionals – a “laboratory” where the family of the future is being moulded.
Many parents contact FamilyLab hoping to find ways to change their children. Instead, they find new aspects of themselves and what kind of parent they want to be. That in turn changes the relationship they have with their children - and slowly parents as well as their children change - for the better.
FamilyLab offers books, articles, research, webinars, seminars, lectures and counselling based on the work of FamilyLab and family therapist and author Jesper Juul along with prominent professionals within each country.
FamilyLab is a non-religious, a-political organisation free of financial influence or control.
